Universal Design Housing "Universal Design" in housing features homes that recognize and accommodate the wide diversity of housing needs - from families with young children to families with elderly or disabled members. The goal is to design for a lifetime - for any need - so families can stay in their home as special needs arise or change - and be able to effectively market the home should circumstances require moving. The CRDA in partnership with AARP and the Center for Universal Design at North Carolina State University funded the design and construction of the Universal Design Demonstration Home near the Route 30 entrance to Atlantic City. The home showcases affordable and practical Universal Design features, which may be incorporated into new home construction or renovations. As its permanent purpose, the Universal Design Demonstration Home is home to Gilda's Club® South Jersey, a community facility for cancer support services, which opened in October 2002. |
