Hope VI Selected from 80 competing cities nationwide, Atlantic City was chosen to receive one of 21 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Hope VI grants of $35 million for urban redevelopment. The grant is included in the Hope VI $192 million multi-agency commitment to revitalize the citys Second Ward or Atlantic Heights District by over 500 new units of housing, the Mayor James L. Usry Child Care Center, a modernized Atlantic City Boys and Girls Club, and over $21 million in road improvements and other community facilities. CRDA undertook its role in the Hope VI Program through the development of communities such as Carolina Gardens, Chesapeake Bay Gardens and Washington Square. In addition, a new phase of residential development consisting of 176 new housing units will commence in the winter of 2006. This phase, to be constructed by Procida Realty and Development Corporation, will be a mix of twin and town home styled units. Planning is also underway for the final phase of Hope VI consisting of up to 200 additional twin and town home units to be constructed by Procida. |
