Pre-Chef Grand Prix Student Cooking Competition Yields a WIN for “Turnip Squad” for Atlantic City Restaurant Week Dinner Menu
Atlantic City, NJ (February 8, 2017) – Six teams from Atlantic Cape Community College’s Academy of Culinary Arts were pitted against each other and the clock yesterday in the quest for a winning three-course dinner menu which meets or exceeds the value of the 2017 Atlantic City Restaurant Week’s $35.17 price point for dinners.
The event, held at Atlantic Cape Community College’s Atlantic City Worthington Campus, featured 24 culinary students in a real-life cooking competition. The experience enhanced their cooking, costing and presenting skills, as well as giving the winners an opportunity to have their featured dish presented at “A Taste of Atlantic City Restaurant Week being held on February 22. The winning students each receive a $1,000 scholarship through the CRDA foundation.

Judging the event were (from l to r): SNJ Today food critic and media personality Kimberly (Kimmie Kocktail, Two Chicks and a Chef) Shurig, Vincent Sacco, Wine Sommelier at Vic and Anthony’s Steakhouse at Golden Nugget AC and Meghan Gill, Hell’s Kitchen season 14 winner and Head Chef at Gordon Ramsay’s Pub & Grill at Caesars AC.
Samples from the winning menu will be featured at “A Taste of Atlantic City Restaurant Week” preview event being held February 22, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa. The winning students will be on hand to attend the charity event and soak up their newfound celebrity status.
Tickets are still available for “A Taste of Atlantic City Restaurant Week,” a VIP event featuring 15 of the restaurants that are participating in Restaurant Week showcasing their menus, as well as the Pre Chef Grand Prix winning menu. Advance ticket purchases are recommended, as a limited number are available. Tickets sold at the door will be limited to the balance of tickets not sold in advance. Advance tickets are available only online at www.acrestaurantweek.com at $35 each, with all proceeds benefitting scholarships and local charities.
Atlantic City Restaurant Week is produced the CRDA, and takes place March 5-10 with over 75 restaurants participating.
